Joining the team

I’ve been trying for weeks to get members of the men’s track and field team, or really any team that was affected by the sports cuts, to contribute to my blog. I thought the site would be an easy sell. I dedicated myself to inventing insightful prompts to spark conversation that would lend credence to their cause. Alas, no one has yet agreed to be a part of my blog site. In fact, the track team seems to already have its own community, complete with Facebook groups, that I would only be intruding upon. I even found another blogger page dedicated to dealing with the sports cuts, although seems as though the other blogger has had similar problems with getting athletes to contribute. My nosy reporter tactics are starting to pay off as I am infiltrating their groups, but the whole situation has led to plenty of questions. If the team is so adamant about saving their sport, why are they unwilling to accept the assistance of others? Do students really distrust the media to such a degree that they will ignore innocent journalism students? Does my blog have far less legitimacy than the daily newspapers that interview these athletes on a regular basis? I’m not saying that my blog will necessarily bring an end to the university’s proposed cuts, but I plan to keep it going. And, I’m throwing in one final plea for contributors: a good Web page never hurt a worthy cause.
